On 2nd of July, an incident took place on the Petromidia platform, within the Diesel Hydrotreating Unit. (HPM).
According to the internal crisis management procedures, the technological processes within the refinery were stopped safely, and following the prompt intervention of the military fire brigades, assisted by the fire fighters on the industrial platform, the flame was completely extinguished.
The priority for us during this incident was the safety of our employees. All the staff of the Petromidia refinery was evacuated, establishing a route and a strict area, only for the access and intervention of the specialized teams.
Unfortunately, 5 of our colleagues were immediately transferred to Constanţa County Hospital and received medical care, and two of them were subsequently transferred to the Emergency Clinical Hospital "Floreasca" Bucharest, after they were stabilized and received specialized medical care.
We are sorry to announce that a person was identified as deceased. The human resources department is in direct contact with the families of those affected, providing all the support needed.
Update
On July 5, the two colleagues hospitalized in the Emergency Clinical Hospital "Floreasca" were transferred to a specialized medical unit in Offenbach - Germany.
With the support of the Romanian Air Force, the aircraft took off around 11.00 from Base 90 Otopeni Air Transport.
During the flight, a medical team consisting of specialists from UPU-SMURD Bucharest and the Ministry of National Defense will monitor our colleagues.
We would like to thank the authorities for their involvement and support in identifying and completing the medical procedures for the transfer of injured colleagues to Germany in about 72 hours.
Through joint efforts, we managed to find quick solutions for our colleagues, to transfer them and to benefit from the best-specialized treatments.
At the same time, we want to thank for the dedication and efforts made by the medical staff in rescuing our colleagues, both those on the Petromidia platform, first aid and transfer crews, and medical staff from Constanţa County Hospital and Emergency Hospital "Floreasca ”.

It is with great sadness that we announce that the second colleague, transferred to a specialized medical unit in Germany, died last night, despite all the efforts of the medical staff.
Our thoughts and also our full support go to the families of our deceased colleagues.
The Rompetrol anti-crisis cell continues to provide support to authorities and partners, as well as to reduce the internal impact of this incident.
At the refinery level, a team of specialists has been established who, together with the relevant authorities, will establish the causes of this incident. At the same time, an analysis of the impact on technological processes will be performed, for a clear picture and predictability in terms of restarting the refinery facilities.
The company will continue to provide fuel for Rompetrol stations in Romania and the Black Sea region.
According to the monitoring carried out internally and by the environmental authorities, there were no exceedances of the limit values for the environmental indicators, and the cloud of smoke generated by the incident moved to the sea. The populated areas near the refinery (Năvodari town, Corbu commune and the tourist resorts in the neighboring area) were not affected.
